The
Foundation was formed by a group of concerned physicians in Southwest
Ohio who believed that an organized, progressive and
proactive effort led by healthcare providers would lead to the most
effective
patient safety initiatives and results in medical practices in
the region. While much has been written about medical errors in the
provision
of services by the Nation’s physicians and hospitals, the
TriState Patient Safety Foundation represents one of the first
physician-led
efforts to address the underlying causes of such medical errors.
In its efforts to design and develop innovative programs to assist
the region’s practitioners with this challenge, the foundation
decided to sponsor a medical professional liability insurance program
that is governed and controlled by physicians who embrace the new
patient safety paradigm. The centerpiece of this company’s
program is patient safety and risk management. The board and management
of the firm believe that investing in the Foundation and its programs
is the linchpin to its long term success. Physicians and medical
groups enrolling in TriState Medical Insurance Company must demonstrate
a genuine commitment to a process of continuous improvement in their
medical practices and agree to adopt best practices in rendering
care to their patients.
